Why It Matters
Across Oregon, school budget cuts are shrinking the opportunities kids need to feel seen, supported, and capable. Teeing Up Schools helps fill that gap.
We equip PE teachers to use golf as a platform for strengthening character and confidence, bringing the experience straight into the school day so every child has the opportunity to learn and grow.

What The School Program Looks Like
Since 2004, First Tee has brought character-building golf into PE classes. The curriculum meets national standards from SHAPE America and adapts to your class size, time, and facility.
- Training: Interactive online training, or in-person training hosted by your district and led by First Tee certified trainers.
- Activity Guide: Lesson plans that blend basic golf, motor skills, core values, and healthy habits.
- Equipment: Durable, developmentally appropriate gear that is safe for indoor or outdoor use.
- Partner Community: An online community to share best practices and access digital resources.

Your Gift Opens Doors for Oregon Students
Your gift puts equipment, curriculum, and training in the hands of Oregon teachers, removing barriers for schools and opening doors for students who might never otherwise be introduced to golf or its life lessons.
“The funding support is crucial. It doesn’t happen without it. You hear it every day in the media. There are only cuts right now, and teachers are working with what they have.” – Scott, P.E. Teacher, Lewis Elementary

Frequently Asked Questions
What does it cost my school?
Our goal is to make the School Program accessible to every school that wants it. Donor and grant support helps cover costs, and we work with each school individually to find the right funding approach. Contact us to start the conversation.
What grades do you serve?
The School Program is designed for elementary and middle school students.
How much training is needed?
Teachers can complete interactive online training, or your district can host an in-person training led by our First Tee certified trainers.
Does the PE teacher need to be a golfer?
No! Many of our most enthusiastic PE teacher partners learned about golf through the program. The training and curriculum materials are designed to support teachers of all levels of golf experience.
How much class time does it take?
Units are typically delivered over 1–3 weeks, and once or twice per school year at the discretion of each school. We simply ask that students get the same amount of participation time and lesson exposure they receive in the other sport-based units at your school.
Do we need a golf course?
No. The equipment is durable, safe, and designed for indoor or outdoor use, so the program works in your gym, on a field, or on the blacktop. Schools without gyms have also delivered the program in cafeteria or auditorium spaces.
What does the First Tee school partner agreement involve, and how long does it last?
It’s a simple agreement, typically signed by your principal or another school district leader with signing authority. It confirms your school’s participation and a few basic requirements: teaching the program as you would any other sport or activity unit in PE, participating in aggregated impact reporting at the end of the year (simple 1-page survey), and staying in touch with us so we can keep supporting you and program quality. The school partner agreement remains active for as long as the school continues to deliver the program year over year, with the goal of becoming a regular component of the school’s annual PE curriculum.
