First Tee Oregon – PGA Jr League

Overview & History
PGA Jr. League is transforming how young golfers engage with the game by introducing a fun, team-based format that emphasizes camaraderie, skill development, and competition. Just like other recreational youth sports, participants wear jerseys, play on teams with friends, and enjoy a supportive, social atmosphere.
First Tee – Oregon is proud to be one of just 32 First Tee chapters nationwide selected to receive funding from the PGA of America REACH Foundation, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, and PGA TOUR Superstore. This funding helps make PGA Jr. League more accessible by covering the PGA Jr. League Game Changer Membership for eligible participants.
At The Children’s Course in Gladstone, Oregon, our PGA Jr. League program gives participants the opportunity to build their skills, compete as a team, and enjoy meaningful on-course experiences under the guidance of PGA Coaches. The season includes team practices and matches, creating a fun and supportive environment where players can grow both on and off the course.
PGA Jr. League Format
Players compete on teams of 6–8 golfers, fostering teamwork, strategy, and skill development. Weekly practices are led by First Tee coaches who help players improve their technical skills, course management, and confidence while preparing for team competition.
Matches follow a scramble match play format, where two-player teams compete against pairs from opposing teams. Each 9-hole match is divided into three 3-hole “flags,” with points awarded for each flag won or tied. This format keeps every hole meaningful, reduces pressure on a single outcome, and creates a fun, competitive experience for players of all skill levels.
During matches, players make their own decisions without parental intervention, encouraging teamwork, communication, and problem-solving on the course. Teammates work together to determine strategy, decide when to take risks, and support one another throughout the round, while First Tee coaches provide guidance and encouragement from the sidelines.
Throughout the season, players are recognized not only for their effort and sportsmanship, but also for demonstrating First Tee’s Key Commitments: Pursuing Goals, Growing Through Challenge, Collaborating with Others, Building a Positive Self-Identity, and Using Good Judgment. These life skills are woven into every practice and match, helping participants grow both as golfers and as individuals.
